The Tour Down Under attracts the world’s cycling elite to South Australia every January to battle for glory in Australia’s premier international cycling race.
South Australia's race is the first ProTour cycling race outside of Europe - and this means you get to see the best riders in the world. The Tour Down Under features starts and finishes in key locations throughout Adelaide and scenic South Australia.
If you're a keen cyclist yourself, you can take part in special legs of the Tour Down Under - there are routes open to children and families too. Get involved with the Tour Down Under and up close to all the action. Meet the cyclists and their teams, join the prestigious Legends Night Dinner, cycle the official stages, join VIP club programs, or just sit back and view the race from the best spot each day.
The 2008 Tour Down Under set new records over the six days of racing, drawing crowds of more than half a million people to the races. In addition, tens of thousands of people attended the many street parties and events associated with the ‘festival of cycling', and a record 4207 took part in the best ever Škoda Breakaway Series.
In 2008, five past winners rode the Tour Down Under. They included 1999 and 2001 winner Stuart O’Grady, 2003 winner Mikel Astarloza, 2005 winner Luis Leon Sanchez, 2006 winner Simon Gerrans and 2007 winner Martin Elminger. Five times Tour de France and two times Giro d’Italia winner, Miguel Indurain, was a special guest.
