You don't have to travel far to experience the best of nature - a trip into Adelaide’s suburbs will do.
Named after the word Moriatta meaning ever flowing in the local language of the Aboriginal Kaurna (pronounced Gowna) people, Morialta Conservation Park is well known for its impressive waterfalls, deep gorges and lush, wooded hillsides, just 20 minutes drive from the city at the base of the Adelaide Hills.
A popular place for rock climbers and bushwalkers of all abilities, Morialta includes trails such as the First Falls Valley Walk suitable for prams as well as more challenging climbs that offer breathtaking views across the hills to the city.
Feeling energetic? Try the First Falls Plateau Hike, Second Falls Gorge Hike or the Three Falls Grand Hike that take you up steep hills, rewarding your effort with views of tumbling waterfalls and scenic valleys. Keep an eye out for abseilers and rockclimbers who regularly tackle the escarpments between Second and Third Falls.
Those after a more leisurely experience can stroll along Fourth Creek to the First Falls, where water plunges down a 30 metre high rockface. Along the way, look for frogs, yabbies, koalas and birds such as Honey Eaters and parrots.
Barbecues and toilets are provided in the Stradbroke Road picnic ground.
