The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden at Piccadilly features displays of cool temperate plants which thrive on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty in the Adelaide Hills. Less than 30 minutes drive from Adelaide.
Spring and autumn are both magnificent, with stunning masses of magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and roses adding a splash of colour to the gardens. The sweet scented rose garden, featuring both modern and old-fashioned roses is particularly popular amongst rose lovers.
The gardens are also renowned for its exceptional autumn colour. A fine collection of exotic deciduous trees from the Northern Hemisphere, transform the gardens into a sea of golden yellow, orange and ruby red colours each autumn.
Several picturesque walking trails take you up and down the gardens seven valleys, including the Fern Gully – home to one of the richest collections of ferns in Australia.
A picnic lunch by the lakeside after an invigorating walk is just the thing for an enjoyable outing with family and friends.
Free guided walks leave from the lower car park at 10.30am every Thursday in spring and autumn.
