Based in Angle Vale, Virgara Wines shows us how hard work and family can create a successful business.
Virgara Wines is a proudly family owned business. From Southern Italy to the Adelaide Plains, the Virgara family have always had a strong work ethic. Migrating in 1962, the family of 12 settled at Angle Vale.
Their passion for wine and the land saw the Virgara family branch into wine production, believing that the Adelaide Plains region has some of the best soil for vines. The existing winery premises (previously Barossa Valley Estate) was an ideal location for them to expand into viticulture and wine production. They feel that the Adelaide Plains environment is much like the Mediterranean one they grew up with and is a wonderful climate to produce quality fruit.
The Virgara family also want to give back to the community that has supported them in the past. Tony Virgara says 'Community spirit is very important. Locally produced products are promoted and encouraged to be sold through our cellar door. We support community events. Our immaculate grounds and barbecue area are always available for the enjoyment of the community and our inaugural Carols by Candlelight event saw over 700 people come out to share in the festive season.'
The lush, green grounds provide the perfect backdrop for family picnics and barbecues, with many local businesses even hiring the grounds for social functions. Come for wine tasting and stay for the view. Virgara Wines is the ideal setting for a relaxing afternoon that the whole family can enjoy.
We offer local produce for sale through our cellar door. This includes olives, olive oil, almonds and continental taralli biscuits. These products are available for sampling over the weekend. We also sell promotional items such as bags, baseball caps, pens and coasters.
