Monarto Zoo is an open range sanctuary with drive-through lion and cheetah habitats, South Australia’s first ever southern white rhinoceros and Australia’s largest giraffe herd.
Take an adventurous safari bus tour inside the animal habitats, seeing African, Asian and Australian animals including rhino, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, bison and African painted dogs.
Monarto Zoo offers three nature walks, ranging from 20 minutes to 90 minutes. You can stroll through mallee bushland viewing free-ranging inhabitants such as emus, kangaroos, euros, bird life and reptiles. Trained volunteer tour guides, who assist in providing an unforgettable experience, lead the safari bus and walking tours. All tours depart from the visitor centre, located centrally within the park.
Monarto Zoological Park is a 1,000 hectare property undertaking a major role nationally and internationally in breeding programs for rare and endangered species.
Just 45 minutes from Adelaide in the Murraylands, Monarto Zoo also offers behind-the-scenes experiences such as Working with Wildlife, Meet our Cheetah and Meet our Lions, providing different levels of interaction with the animals.
Zu-loop tours operate throughout the day, taking you to previously inaccessible areas so you can get close to some of Africa’s most spectacular carnivores.
The first safari bus tour departs at 10.30am and then tours leave at regular intervals until the last tour at 3.30pm.
Enjoy a relaxing meal or snack in Monarto's licensed bistro overlooking the peaceful surrounds and emu watering hole, or browse the gift shop. The visitor centre includes a nature education and regional tourism information area. It is also the home for the inquisitive meerkat and endangered bilby.
Bookings are not required for the bus tours or walking tours. When here, you can book on the first available bus and walking tour.
Monarto Zoological Park may be closed on days of extreme fire danger. No pets allowed due to the park being a quarantine site.
