The trail to Rocky Gully, on Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail, is a reminder that much of Central Australia is still a ‘wild country’, where survival is a challenge for all manner of plants and animals. Even though the soil is shallow, the vegetation is quite thick, however, it is predominately shrub land and shady trees are found few and far between. After trekking in a south westerly direction, the trail descends into a steep sided gully. The rocky creek bed makes it a good place to set up camp for the night before continuing your journey on Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail.
There is no vehicle access to Rocky Gully, camping is permitted.
Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail is graded as medium - a narrow track which may be rough in places, with some climbing and descending, suitable for people who walk regularly.
