THE EMUS
'Corralyn emus' was established in 1991.
Emus are farmed for their oil, leather and meat. The emus are fed on grain (wheat, oasts, barley, lupins) grown on the property. Females lay twenty to forty eggs per year from May to October. The eggs are artificially incubated for eight weeks. The chicks are brooded with artificial heat for eight weeks, growing rapidly. The birds reach maturity at fifteen months to two years. Each bird produces seven square feet of leather, fiver litres of oil and twelve kilograms of meat.
THE EMU OIL AND LEATHER
For thousands of years Australian Aborigines have known of the therapeutic and healing qualities of Emu oil. The Corralyn Emu oil products are a natural development of a very Australian resource, combined with traditional herbal medicine that benefits all skin conditions. It gives relief from arthritis, joint and muscular aches and sprains, is antiseptic and popular as a massage oil.
The leather is attractive and soft and used in fashions and accessories. The body leather features the feather follicles and the leg leathers come up beautifully.
Oil and leather products, as well as eggs, feathers and souvenirs, are available for purchase in the cottage.
THE PROPERTY
'Corralyn' is well known in farming circles for the production of quality stud Corriedale sheep. Situated just three kilometres north of Wagin, it is now home to a happy population of emus.
