Shinju Matsuri Festival hotels and accommodation
Celebrating 40 years of Shinju Matsuri Festival.
From the high spirited and colourful waking of Sammy the Dragon after his yearlong slumber; across ten days of festivity; to a spectacular fireworks finale; Shinju Matsuri is the premier arts, cultural and community event in Broome, Western Australia.
This year the festival celebrates its 40th anniversary. Shinju Matsuri encourages all cultural groups from the Broome community to participate in the celebrations to develop constructive and harmonious Broome community relationships.
Shinju Matsuri rekindles the excitement and romance of Broomes early days as a world renowned producer of Pearls and Pearl shell. Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Koepangers, Pilipino and Europeans flocked to Broome from the late 1800s to be a part of this prosperity. This unique multicultural population of pearl industry workers, including local Aborigines, contributed to the spirit and energy that is still present in the exotic town of Broome today.
