OVERVIEW
D'Entrecasteaux National Park is located on the South Coast between Black Point and Doggerup Creek and extends inland to the edge of the State Forest and is approximately 36,599 hectares. The park covers 60 kilometres of coastline.
DISTANCE
20 kilometres south west Pemberton, ten kilometres south west of Northcliffe and ten kilometres north west Windy Harbour.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Bus to major centres of Manjimup and Pemberton.
DESCRIPTION
Sandy beaches, interspersed with rocky headlands and cliffs, semi mobile dunes, interdunal swamps, swampy flats, seasonally inundated, river systems, forest country.
VEGETATION
Coastal heath, peaty swamps, wetlands, jarrah woodlands, dense forests.
FAUNA
Very little known about the area. More information could be obtained from the Western Australian Museum.
CAMPING
Camping area with barbecues, picnic tables, and toilets at Lake Jasper, Black Point, Moore's Hut, and Crystal Springs.
SUPPLIES
Pemberton, Northcliffe, Nannup and Manjimup.
ACTIVITIES
Picnicking, bushwalking, boating, fishing, beachcombing. Yeagarup Dunes are ideal for performance kite flying.
ACCESS
At present five main tracks are used to reach the coast, two are impassable at present, and all are strictly four wheel drive only. The park is honeycombed with numerous other tracks as well and should not be attempted without some local knowledge of the area.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
All year round.
WARNING OF SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Four wheel drive, more knowledge than is available on most maps of the area.
