The chapel was built in 1872-73 on the Egerton-Warburton Estate to serve the pioneers in the district. The property was part of the Egerton-Warburton family for more than 125 years.

The ornamental chancel screen and alter rail of wrought iron were hand beaten on the property. The walls were made of clay and chopped straw, and the woodwork was all local jarrah.

At the time of dedication in 1874, it was one of 28 churches in Western Australia.
