Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre
Named after the legendary Dame Joan Sutherland this centre was built in 1990 by the Penrith City Council. The centre is located in beautiful parkland adjacent to the Westfield Penrith Plaza and the Council Civic Centre.
The Performing Arts Centre has been hailed as one of the finest acoustic facilities in Australia. ABC FM broadcast from here often. The centre boasts a 660 seat acoustic concert auditorium named after Dame Joan's husband, Richard Bonynge. This auditorium has fully raked fixed continental style seating and is designed on the classic rectangular lines of the great European concert halls. The centre also has the Allan Mullins room with seating for110 which is suitable for meetings, small recitals, and theatre restaurant. Various mutli-purpose rooms are also available.
The Centre has 23 teaching studios for voice and instrument and broadcast quality television and sound landlines are available for outside broadcasts or taping.
This venue is used for classical concerts by leading orchestras and soloists, light music entertainment, ballet and the ever popular monthly Morning Melodies, as well as by community groups.
The Centre is also home to the Q Theatre, which has 400 seats. The Q Theatre hosts a variety of performances. Call the box office for a calendar of up and coming productions.
Up to the minute catering facilities are available for hire and may be used for private functions.
