The new Q at the Joan was born in October 2005 with "Somewhere - the Magical Musical of Penrith" in the newly refurbished Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
In August 2005, the old railway institute building, home to the Q since 1977, was officially closed.
'Q' Theatre, previously known as the Railway Street Theatre Company, is the largest and most successful regional theatre in Australia. The 'Q' theatre is a professional theatre and has well-known and local artists perform comedy, drama and thriller plays.
