Saturday, a visit to the Green Flea Markets down in Davies Park Take a City Cat along the beautiful Brisbane River either upstream to the University of Queensland (good coffee at Wordsmiths) or down river into the City. Best stop is North Quay walk up the stairs and youre practically in the Queen St Mall. GOMA Gallery of Modern Art, QAG, QSL, QPAC, Science Centre and Museum. Our wonderful new gallery is the black quilted looking building (our very own Guggenheim in Bilbao) at Kurilpa Point an easy walk from here all along the river. Home to an interesting modern permanent indigenous collection and great travelling shows it is connected to the rest of the Cultural Precinct which includes the refurbished Queensland State Library, the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) the Science Centre and Museum and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). If its winter its AFL at the Gabba. This world famous (for its spelling anyway!) venue is in South Brisbane and home to the Brisbane Lions. And, of course, in the summer theres cricket! Take a bus or a cab as its a little far to walk. And if you cant get your tongue around Woolloongabba, do like the locals just call it the Gabba! If youre into Rugby (of either code) theres Suncorp Stadium.Avoid the traffic and parking hassles and walk all the way down Montague Rd then up the stairs under the William Jolly Bridge then follow the crowds(about 35 min walk). The Brisbane Convention Centre is close. There are always interesting shows and expos on here. Check local tourism guides or www.ourbrisbane.com for whats on.Southbank ParklandTheres got to be good things said about a Council that donates prime river frontage real estate back to the people! Southbank is the site of the 1988 Brisbane Expo which some people say, put Brisbane on the map! Whatever it was those many years ago, it is now a fabulous leisure precinct of shops, restaurants parklands and even a beach! A great place to visit the markets on Saturday, stroll through the bougainvillea drenched Arbour or go for a swim. There are dance, busking and other festivals on at Southbank throughout the year.Roma St ParklandThis is a beautiful park right over the busy Roma St railway line. Be cooled in the shady tree fern gully, sit in the sun on the expansive lawns or wander amongst the flowers in the flower garden. Roma Street Parkland is only a step away from the CBD yet it feels like miles and milesFacilities at Minto Student House :
