Thornton Country Retreat Bed and Breakfast is the original Thornton school built in 1889 and is one of the few remaining school houses in Queensland still standing in its original location. Thornton Country Retreat Bed and Breakfast remains very much as it was then. The home has a true old ambience and has been lovingly restored to maintain its special charm. Extensions have been carried out to match the original building. You will marvel at 16 foot ceilings, tongue and grooved walls, and an extensive use of Silky Oak timber throughout. History makes its own statement and you will be drawn to the special aura of the old school.
Two accommodation options are available at Thornton Country Retreat Bed and Breakfast. There is an executive suite in the main home comprising of a queen bedroom which leads via French doors onto a screen enclosed verandah where you can enjoy breakfast. The suite has a private wood-panelled bathroom with claw foot bath and separate shower, and a private sitting room with a television, video, books, and tea and coffee making facilities. There is also access to a large lounge/dining area where you can entertain visitors.
There is also a private self-contained cottage in the back garden overlooking the Great Dividing and Little Liverpool Ranges. The open-plan cottage features raked cathedral ceilings with front and rear screen-enclosed verandahs. There is a queen bed and double sofa bed, lounge, reading and dining areas, and a kitchenette with all appliances. The Federation ensuite features a claw foot bath.
Both these accommodation options are beautifully and tastefully decorated and feature reverse-cycle air conditioning, bathrobes and slippers, bath accessories and much more.
