State-of-the-art and wholly interactive, the AUD20 million dollar Workshops Rail Museum is Australia's premier rail museum. A campus of the Queensland Museum, the site was home to over 10,000 workers over its 140 year history and is the birthplace of rail in Queensland - the very first train to run in Queensland steamed from the site in 1865.
Step back in time as you relive the romance of rail on beautifully restored railway carriages, enjoy interactive learning and play in the kids nippers railway, take the controls of the diesel cab or tilt train simulators, step into the thick of it on a behind the scenes tour of the working workshops.
The multi-award winning Workshops Rail Museum is home to the annual signature event, Friends of Thomas, along with a number of other popular activities throughout the year.
