Pick up a map of the trail from the Kapunda Visitor Information Centre.
Settled in the 1830's and situated between the Clare and Barossa Valleys, you will find Kapunda, a small and friendly country town with a rich and interesting history. The town exudes a pleasant appeal which, in part, emanates from the ornate, well preserved, main precinct buildings which continue to serve the community after more than a century and a half.
With the discovery of copper and the establishment of Australia's first commercial copper mine in 1844, Kapunda flourished. The influx of Cornish and Welsh miners, Irish labourers and English and Scottish businessmen left their indelible print on the community. The boom period during the 1840's - 1870's saw a strong and independent business and manufacturing base develop in the town.
