Follow the Kuitpo Forest trail through a mosaic of native woodland and plantations of pine and eucalypt species. You'll find information boards along the way which highlight features of forest management. Follow the markers along the trail, which will take you about one and a half hours to complete.
Kuitpo Forest is in the South Mount Lofty Ranges, 45 minutes drive from Adelaide, near the township of Meadows. The Heysen Trail passes through Kuitpo, linking many of the forest's recreation facilities, and is a great way to discover the variety of opportunities that the forest has to offer. The Onkeeta Walking Trail links with the Heysen Trail and winds for some nine kilometres through pine plantation forests and native woodland. You may spot a wide variety of native birds and wildflowers in the woodlands, while in the pine plantations, large flocks of Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo are a common sight through the tree tops. Colourful toadstools and delicate orchids nestle in the deep, cool shadow of the forest.
The Onkeeta Walking Trail starts from the Onkeeta Parking Area on Peters Creek Road, three kilometres from the Information Centre.
Camping areas include Jacks Paddock Camping Area, Rocky Creek Camping Area, and the Chookarloo Camping Area. These all require camping permits that can be purchased through the Forest Ranger. The camping season is from 1 April to 30 November.

Get a firsthand look at what is involved in growing and managing softwood plantation forests at the forestry demonstration area. School group are invited to contact the Forest Ranger at Kuitpo Forest Headquarters about the opportunities offered by the Kuitpo Demonstration Forest for natural resource and land management studies.
Kuitpo was the site of the first plantation forests established in the Mount Lofty Ranges in 1898. Today, it covers an area of some 3,600 hectares, of which 60 per cent is softwood plantation.
