Just a three hour drive north of Adelaide, Mount Remarkable National Park lives up to its’ name offering remarkable rock formations, deep gorges and dramatic scenery.
Alligator Gorge, on the eastern side of the park, includes deep gashes in red-brown quartzite rocks, forming gorges rich in colour while on the western side, Mambray Creek’s canopy of ancient Red Gums are framed by a collection of steep and rolling hills.
See spring wildflowers sprinkled throughout the landscape, and discover the parks amazing flora where plants from arid zone and temperate climates both thrive.
Emus and the stocky built Euro are often seen along the creeks, while overhead, Kookaburras, Adelaide Rosellas and Galahs make riotous calls to campers below. The rare Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby may also be seen as you venture deeper in the park.
Hikers can take in be beauty of the bush and stay overnight at secluded campsites, strategically located throughout the park. Camping grounds and a cabin are available at Mambray Creek in the park, while a charming self-contained homestead is available at Alligator Gorge, (bookings essential).
At 960 metres, Mount Remarkable towers above the small town of Melrose which offers heritage-style accommodation and a caravan park. You can access the park from the towns of Wilmington, Mambray Creek and Melrose. Each entrance accesses a different section of the park.
