Steamtown is a museum endeavouring to maintain a working link with Peterborough's predominantly narrow gauge railway heritage. Peterborough is noted for the existence of three gauges residing at the one location - broad gauge, standard gauge and narrow gauge.
It is also the site of the Peterborough Rail Heritage Museum, which contains an ever increasing number of artifacts and memorabilia of railway life in Peterborough during the 1900s.
The Roundhouse and Turntable are National Heritage listed and it is believed that the turntable is the only one in existence that has three rail gauges installed on it.
Guided tours of the Roundhouse and Depot are available on a daily basis from 9am to 3pm. Other times can be arranged by either calling at the Depot or contacting the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre or the Peterborough Tourist Information Outlet. Tours are not available on Good Friday or Christmas Day.
