The interactive hands-on Wadlata Outback Centre takes you through the evolution of the Flinders Ranges and Outback South Australia through a vast series of entertaining displays. This is a journey you will never forget.
Discover the Outback, relive the Aboriginal Dreamtime and tales of explorers and settlers, and learn what the vast and varied land means to the people who live and work there today.
Enter the time tunnel and step back 15 million years to the Greentime, when lush rainforests inhabited the Flinders Ranges and Outback South Australia and dinosaurs roamed the area freely. Learn and understand how the Aboriginal people believe the Flinders Ranges were formed in the Dreamtime. Listen to the experiences of the early explorers or find out about early forms of transportation. Discover the hardships experienced by our European Settlers by watching a movie in the three screen theatre with surround sound.
Pedal the radio and listen to the children on the School of the Air or just sit back and watch the award winning film, Back of Beyond. Try your hand at Morse Code, take a tour around the Leigh Creek Coal Fields, or visit the Olympic Dam Mine at Roxby Downs. Allow yourself one or two hours to explore the early Flinders Ranges and the Outback - you'll be glad you did!
After wandering through the interpretive centre, relax in the Outback Tuckerbox Eatery or sit outside by the Flinders Rock Pool.
