The Savoyards that brought the production of HMS Pinafore in 2007 will be touring this year with the production of The Sound of Music. Based on the autobiography of Maria von Trapp, the Sound of Music is set in Austria in 1938 and tells the story of a free-spirited young novice who had the courage to follow her heart and find her dream of love in her marriage with Captain von Trapp and his seven children. Unfortunately, when the Nazi's invaded their homeland, the family was forced to flee to safety across the Alps to Switzerland and freedom.
The Sound of Music was the final collaboration for Rodgers and Hammerstein and the music/lyrics are unforgettable - Maria, I Have Confidence, My Favourite Things, Lonely Goatherd, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, So Long, Farewell, Edelweiss and, of course, The Sound of Music!
