The Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park, located two hours south of Brisbane in the Gold Coast hinterland, is a spectacular park with lush rainforest, beautiful waterfalls and over 160 kilometres of extensive bushwalking trails.
Lamington is in the World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, the most extensive subtropical rainforest in the world and Antarctic Beech. There are two sections to Lamington: Green Mountains and Binna Burra. Both sections offer great bushwalking, birdwatching and camping opportunities.
Declared a national park in 1915, Lamington was saved from the logging and farming that changed much of the McPherson Range. Now World Heritage listed, the park protects subtropical rainforest, wildflowers, waterfalls and rare species, such as the spotted-tailed quoll and Albert's lyrebird.
Stay at the resort or the privately run campground. Explore the historic 21.4 kilometre Border track, built in the late 1930s. From Bellbird lookout, see Turtle Rock, Egg Rock and Numinbah Valley, good examples of natural erosion in action. Walk the Caves circuit to enjoy views of Coomera Valley. Look for Richmond birdwing butterflies, orchids and king parrots back at the picnic area (wheelchair-accessible toilets).
