Step back in time on a bushwalk in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park. The regent bowerbird, rufous scrub-bird and antarctic beech tree are species that have survived since prehistoric times. Waterfalls, wildlife and a wonderful network of walking tracks; little wonder Green Mountains attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Take photos of crimson rosellas in the picnic area. Look into the rainforest canopy on the O'Reilly's Treetop walk. Pick up the latest brochure from the information centre and enjoy walking tracks (from one kilometre to 22 kilometres in length) leading to creeks and lookouts. On the Python walk, listen for the masked mountainfrog’s 'popping' call. Stay overnight in the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services camping area; bring a fuel stove, as campfires are not permitted. The park is 36 kilometres south of Canungra. The approach is narrow, winding and unsuitable for caravans.
