The Wave on Hyden Rock is one of Australia's most famous landforms, situated four kilometres east of the town of Hyden. Rising 15 metres above the ground, and more then 100 metres long, Wave Rock looks a giant surf wave of multicoloured granite about to crash onto the bush below. Wave Rock is four hours drive through the wheatbelt from Perth's northern suburbs via York, or via Brookton when coming from the southern suburbs of Perth. Geologists believe the original formation has been sculptured and coloured by chemicals over 2,700 million years to take on its wave-like character.
