The Panorama Motor Inn is located at 256 Pacific Highway Charlestown, 10km from the Newcastle CBD. Coming from the south take the Eastern Lake Macquarie exit from the F3 Freeway towards Swansea/Belmont. Just after the Charlestown CBD you will see the orange Panorama Motor Inn sign on the left hand side. Coming in from the north on the Pacific Hwy follow the signs to Newcastle and then through to Charlestown. Lake Macquarie is a boaties paradise and the trip around the lake is very scenic. A variety of day trips on the lake are worth the effort, relaxing in the sun on the deck, or lunch on a midday cruise. If you enjoy fishing give it a go and hire a boat for the day.
If you travel 10 minutes in the opposite direction you will hit the most popular surf beaches of Newcastle. The stretch of beaches between Dudley, Redhead and Newcastle are sure to please any beach lover. Head to Newcastle Beach to see where Surfest is held each year.
For the energetic, a walk along the Harbour Foreshore from the ferry terminal to Nobbys Lighthouse would be a highlight of your visit, with the possibility of seeing a tugboat in action. Close by is Fort Stratchley, see where our coastline was protected by enemy ships in WWII. A short tour through the fort is a history buffs heaven.
A visit to the Christcurch Cathedral, which overlooks Newcastle, would be very rewarding as the view is breathtaking. For something a little different visit the church at night when it is dimly lit, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Newcastle is a large bustling clean city, now that the steelworks have closed. A trip on the Tourist Tram will take you to all the historic and scenic sights of Newcastle. A bus stop is located adjacent to the motel and can take you directly to Newcastle or around the suburbs and back again. The extensive number of bus routes means travel around Newcastle is easily accessible.
For those who enjoy a drop, many day trips to the picturesque Hunter Valley Vineyards are available. There are dozens of vineyards open for wine tasting and sales, all within a 45 minute drive from the motel. Enjoy some of your favourite wines in the beautiful landscape then return for dinner at any of the award winning restaurants in Newcastle. 10 minutes to Newcastle or Beaumont St Hamilton and there are choices of seafood, Italian, African or an Aussie pub meal, inside or alfresco will be your hardest decision. If you need to relax and enjoy a meal, order room service for a private dinner.
Nelson bay is also well worth a visit. Right on the water the sunsets are breathtaking. Feeding the pelicans is a must for the kids. All varieties of boat trips are available for dolphin and whale watching, either inside the bay or larger trips outside. Dinner cruisers cater for the romantic, so whatever you choose make sure to take the camera. These trips can be booked through the motel, hassle free for when you arrive for your trip.
