Taree is a popular stopover point for travellers heading north out of Sydney. A prosperous farming area, the district also takes in the small towns of Harrington, Manning Point, Saltwater, Old Bar, Cundletown, Hallidays Point, Tinonee and Wingham. A cruise on the Manning River is the ideal way to navigate the area's major waterway while taking in the beautiful pastoral landscape at its banks. Fotheringham Park is one of Taree's recreational highlights, especially its unusual Herb and Sculpture Garden which opened in 1988 as part of Australia's Bicentennial celebrations.
