The Magic Cottage is an artist’s studio and gardens at Strahan on Tasmania’s west coast. Strahan is a four-and-a-half hour drive from Hobart (298 kilometres) and Launceston (290 kilometres). The Magic Cottage is the home and studio of west coast artist Chris Wilson. Visitors can watch the artist at work and purchase original artworks on the premises. The property also has a Rainforest Garden, which includes many species of unique Tasmanian plants, including some endemic to the west coast. There is also a small historic cottage on the property, which includes the Captain’s Time Capsule – a room decorated in a style typical of the lodgings of a 19th century sailor. In Strahan you can also visit the Strahan Woodworks. Here you can see local artisans craft fine Tasmanian timbers - including Huon pine - into furniture, works of art, and beautifully crafted home wares.
