The 8th WA Environment Festival – Living More With Less will be held on 25th and 26th of March 2006. Held in the extensive, naturally beautiful grounds of Naragebup Rockingham Regional Environment Centre, on Safety Bay Road (opposite Lake Richmond), Peron, this family oriented event features a huge range of intriguing activities. There will be approximately 60 stall holders offering a huge range of services and goods for display and sale.
A highlight of the Festival is the selection of natural encounters on offer. Kanyana Wildlife Carers bring along a selection of native animals including an echidna, bilbys, possums and a bob tail lizard. Snakes are popular and the raptors are fascinating. Joining the Festival in 2005 was the Spineless Wonders offering visitors a glimpse into the tantalizing world of mini beasts, and the parrot man brought a stunning collection of these colourful birds delighting adults and children alike.
A thrilling collection of entertainers keep people entertained throughout the day, including Junkadelic (recycled goods percussion band) who this year had people clapping hands, yahooing and banging drums.
Captain Clean Up enforced the message of what must be done to protect our planet for the future while Tai Chi demonstrations focused more on internal calmness. Lively rock jive and exotic bellydancers added to the colour and excitement of the weekend and the mellow sounds of the Fyswick Band provided a great way to relax at the end of the day.
Stall holders in 2006 may include Men of The Trees, Somerville Eco Village, City of Rockingham, Big Wave Surf School, Gem and Rock Hunters Club, Woodworking Club, Alcoa, CALM, with refreshments available from a variety of vendors such as the Herb Society, Girl Guides, Jax Juices and the Hari Krishnas.
A strong environment theme is reflected by stall holders such as the Phosphorus Awareness group, The Australian Native Plant group, Eco Echidna, the Naturalists’ Club and Eco Vision.
