The Royal Australian Air Force Association Aviation Heritage Museum of Western Australia is widely recognized as one of the best of it’s kind in Australia and indeed, the world. Tracing it’s origins back to 1959, the Museum draws it’s purpose from it’s parent body, the RAAF Association - 'to foster aviation in every possible way - to preserve our nation’s proud aviation heritage’.

The Museum’s driving purpose, therefore, is the preservation and promotion of aviation history, both of a civil and a military nature. Housed in two wings, the Museum traces man’s fascination with flight from the mythical Icarus and Daedalus through to the Space Race.

Concentrating on Australian and West Australian aviation history the Museum houses more than 30 aircraft, pride of place goes to the Avro Lancaster, one of only 17 left in the world today. Other aircraft in the Museum’s collection include a late model Spitfire, 2 Tiger Moths and a replica Bristol Tourer, the first aircraft to fly commercial flights in Australia.

In 1979, after more than 8 years of preparation, the Museum was opened to the public, soon afterwards, in 1983, the Museum was expanded with the addition of the North Wing. These two wings now house the majority of the Museum’s collection, the South Wing containing a collection of civil and commercial aircraft and displays, whilst the North Wing is home to the Museum’s array of military aircraft and memorabilia.

The Museum Gift Shop carries a range of products, catering for the young an the old, the expert and the novice. Specialist books, limited edition aircraft prints and collector’s die cast models tempt the enthusiast whilst younger visitors will love the gliders, model kits, badges and jigsaws in the shop. Also available is a range of Museum specific memorabilia ranging from Polo Shirts to hats to badges and souvenir spoons.

In addition the Aviation Heritage Museum has built up an extensive collection of documentary, photographic and other research resources over the 25 years it has existed. They are used by Museum staff in preparing displays and publications and are available by appointment to those researching aviation history.

The Museum also offers a range of specialist services:
