The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia provides a unique opportunity for everyone to participate and examine their political inheritance and understand how they can make a contribution to the State's democratic development.
The Centre is housed in one of Perth's finest restored heritage buildings and allows visitors to explore the events, history and structures that shape our government today.
The Centre is the only one of its kind in Australia and:
- Promotes public awareness of our federal system of government with particular emphasis on its constitutional basis.
- Encourages balanced debate about the development of our system of government.
- Educates the public about our electoral and parliamentary system, and
- Fosters a sense of ownership and encourages participation in the political process.
As well as permanent exhibitions the Centre has an ongoing program of special travelling exhibitions throughout the year. Accompanying these exhibitions is a program of special activities, lectures and public talks. There are also special activity programs held on and around significant dates such as Foundation Day (01 June), Anniversary of Western Australia's decision to join Federation (31 July), and Proclamation Day (21 October).
