Bon Scott Memorial - ACDC fans flock there in their thousands – the gravesite of legendary Aussie rocker Bon Scott at Fremantle Cemetery, south of Perth.
A plaque in the ground, and another on a nearby bench, serve as a memorial drawing huge numbers of visitors.
Like Jim Morrison’s grave in Paris, Bon Scott’s resting place has become a pilgrimage for fans from around the world.
So popular, it is now registered with the National Trust of Australia and seen as one of the country’s most important cultural sites.
WA fans are fighting for a statue to be erected in Fremantle to honour their hero who was found dead in his friend’s car in London in 1980 after a night of heavy drinking.
He was aged just 33 and was at the peak of his fame and success.
Generations of fans still enjoy the ACDC legacy.
Songs like It’s A Long Way To The Top, Jailbreak, Let There Be Rock and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheep are part of the Aussie way of life.
Bon Scott’s Life - Scott was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland, but migrated to Australia at the age of six.
He grew up in Perth and first learned drums and bagpipes at a local Scots pipe band.
Scott dropped out of school at the age 15 and spent short spells in another of Fremantle’s now popular attractions, Fremantle Prison.
He served briefly in the Australian Army but was discharged for being socially maladjusted.
Scott joined ACDC in 1974 and the band went on to become one of the most successful in Australia and around the world.
Just six years after joining the band, Scott’s life ended. His death certificate lists “death by misadventure” and “acute alcohol poisoning”.
Fremantle Cemetery - The cemetery is one of the most historic landmarks in the city.
It was established in 1898 and was one of the Swan River Colony’s first graveyards.
Bounded by Leach Highway, Carrington Street, Sainsbury Road and Stock Road, the cemetery occupies 46 hectares of land.
