For backpackers, school or community groups alike, Kingstown Barracks & YHA are perfect for the traveller on a limited budget wishing to explore Rottnest Island.
Kingstown Barracks & YHA offer a friendly and intimate atmosphere, and ensures a safe, clean and comfortable stay. Located near Kingstown, Kingstown Barracks & YHA are in walking distance to the beach and Thomson Bay Settlement. Kingstown Barracks & YHA also house the Rottnest Island Environmental Education Centre (EEC), an education and accommodation venue for schools, community groups and the general public.
Did you know that you can participate in an Environmental Awareness Course? Enjoy the guided walking and cycling tours, beach tours and art activities and learn about the conservation of Rottnest Island and its unique Island environment. If you wish to explore Rottnest on your own, then you can catch the free shuttle bus that departs from the Main Bus Stop in Thomson Bay and travel to Geordie, Fay’s and Longreach Bays. Alternatively, you can hire a bike from Rottnest Bike Hire and explore the Island’s environment and wildlife, or enjoy swimming, snorkelling or fishing on one of the Island’s secluded beaches.
Accommodation ranges from dormitory style to self contained cottages with a total capacity of 326 people.
The Rottnest Island Youth Hostel has 54 beds (family rooms and dormitories), a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge with television, radio and 24-hour internet access. Communal ablution facilities are available. Discounts apply for YHA cardholders.
Governors’ Circle comprises nine self contained cottages, each with between 9 and 18 beds. Discounts are available to groups who have participated in an Environmental Awareness Course or who have over 18 people. One cottage has facilities that will accommodate wheelchairs.
The former army barracks at Kingstown feature 17 dormitory rooms, ideal for school and other community groups. Some rooms have private ablutions and wheelchair facilities. Communal cooking and ablution facilities are available. Hearty breakfasts, lunches and dinners are offered at reasonable prices in the dining hall at Kingstown Barracks.
