Moulton's Cottage, WA Australia
| Address | Meadow St, Perth Western Australia, 6055, Australia | | Telephone Enquiries : | 08-9379 9400 |
This small house was built by a storekeeper, Abraham Moulton, on land leased from Capt. Richard Goldsmith Meares.
Moulton operated a general store in part of the house, and also built a small two-storey warehouse beside the public wharf at the end of Meadow Street. Moulton acted as a shipping agent for agricultural produce brought from the country districts. The produce included sandalwood, wool, hides and timber, and was loaded on to barges at the public wharf.
In 1846 Moulton was murdered by the Malay crew of a ship he had chartered to carry sandalwood to Hong Kong.
Points of interest in the house are the four French doors opening onto the front verandah and the low scale of the building.
