On this site next to the present bridge there once stood a public wharf designated in the original town plan as a landing place for barges and other river craft stopping at Guildford on their way up the river from Perth and Fremantle.
Agricultural produce from the country districts was loaded on barges, or 'lighters' as they were then called, for transport down the river to the ocean-going ships at Fremantle.
In 1842 Abraham Moulton built a small warehouse nearby, and the wharf was thenceforward known as 'Moultons Landing'. With the coming of the railway in the 1880's the wharf fell into disuse, and little trace of it now remains.
