The O'Connor Museum commemorates an incredible turn-of-the-century-engineering feat to pipe water from Perth to the parched Goldfields, nearly 600 kilometres away. Visitors can view the nearby dam that was built to catch and store the water before it began its incredible journey. The museum itself is housed in the original No 1 Pumping Station - the first of eight such stations needed to pump life-giving water into the dry interior. The museum contains old photographs and documentation that gives a fascinating record of a turning point in the development of Western Australia. The original machinery housed in the museum is of particular interest to those in the engineering and water industry fields. The museum is situated in picturesque surroundings in the middle of an unspoilt area of native Australian bush. Nearby barbecue and picnic facilities and its close proximity to Perth add to its appeal as a popular family outing.
