Rottnest Island is a special place for Western Australians and a popular destination for interstate and international visitors. The semi-arid Mediterranean-style climate and indigenous flora and fauna of this island, as an A class reserve, provides the backdrop to a special holiday experience.
Some of the world’s finest beaches and bays can be found at Rottnest Island, providing a spectacular venue for snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing and swimming. Colonial streetscapes and architecture among the oldest in Australia is also a feature of this historic island.
Rottnest Island is famous for its underwater world of wonder for divers, snorkellers and swimmers. The stark beauty of its encircling reefs and contrasting blues of navy, azure and aqua provide a stunning backdrop to the Island’s 63 dazzlingly white bays and beaches. The pristine waters around the Island are warmed by the Leeuwin current bringing with it hundreds of species of sub-tropical fish and Australia’s southernmost coral formations.
A new snorkel trail has recently been launched at Little Salmon Bay, arguably one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The trail joins thirteen underwater wrecks and a popular snorkel trail at Parker Point to provide an additional focal point and interpretive trail from which to enjoy marine life in all its exquisite form and colour.
Snorkelling equipment is available for hire on the Island and dive operator provides the necessary equipment and expertise for deeper dives. A glass bottomed boat, moored off the Island’s main jetty in the summer months provides up to three trips a day for anyone who prefers to revel in the glory without getting wet!
You can visit Rottnest Island for a day trip or stay for a few days in our unique accommodation. It is a convenient journey from the mainland by ferry or by air and a popular destination for those making the journey in their own boat.
