Sullivan Rock is a spectacular granite outcrop on the Darling Range and a popular day walk and access point for the Bibbulmun Track, Western Australia's premier walk trail stretching nearly 1000 kilometres from Perth Hills to Albany.
The carpark, situated on the Albany Highway, has barbecues, tables, ample shade and an historic well built by convicts which was a regular stopping point for travellers in the times of horse and cart.
From the carpark, walk across the Albany Highway to join a trail over Sullivan Rock which links to the Bibbulmun Track. To the North (left) is Mt Vincent & Mt Cuthburt leading to Monadnocks shelter, and to the South (right) is Mt Cooke, the highest point on the trail at 582 metres.
The Bibbulmun Track is marked with yellow, triangular 'waugal' markers. The 'waugal' is the Aboriginal mythical dreamtime serpent whose body is said to have formed the Darling Scarp.
Walkers are also advised to carry a map (Map 1 in the Bibbulmun Track series or the North Guide Book available from CALM offices, Tourist Bureaux or contact: 08 9481 0551).
Sullivan Rock is home to numerous rock pools containing unusual water plants as well as prolific birdlife including Ravens and Grey Currawongs near the highway, plus Scarlet Robins, Grey Fantails and splendid Fairy-wrens in the forest. Wedge-tailed Eagles are also seen in the sky above Mt Vincent.
