Lake Placid Tourist Park, a 4-star park in the Top Tourist Park chain, offers caravan and tent sites as well as budget or luxury accommodation in a 14 acre tropical rainforest resort setting. The park is adjacent to the cool, crystal clear waters of Lake Placid, at the base of the World Heritage area of the Barron River Gorge National Park. Located near Cairns city, the park is central to all of the main tourist attractions such as Skyrail, the Kuranda Scenic Railway and northern beaches, and is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

Resident owner, Philip Jacka, and managers Maria and Darryl, will greet you with a friendly welcome and will ensure that you feel at home, have a wonderful stay.

A variety of clean, tidy, air conditioned modern cabins, villas and cottages are available to suit everyone’s needs. Whether you are looking for budget accommodation, with shared facilities and linen optional, or for something a bit roomier with full kitchen and bathroom facilities, you will find it waiting for you at Lake Placid.

You can rely on the vast knowledge and first-hand experience of the staff for full tourist information and bookings for over 100 tours. Pick-up at the park can also be arranged for many of the popular tours.

The beauty of the rainforest and its multitude of birds and wildlife can be enjoyed amongst the hundreds of coconut trees in the park, while the Kuranda tourist train can be seen winding its way along the mountain track.

How to get to Lake Placid Tourist Park
From the airport
Exit the airport on Airport Ave, and turn right into Captain Cook Hwy. Stay on Captain Cook Hwy through the first 3 roundabouts (Machan’s Beach, Holloway’s Beach and Yorkey’s Knob roads), and then turn left at the fourth roundabout (Cairns Western Arterial). Continue on Cairns Western Arterial past the traffic lights in front of the school and then on to the next set of lights. Turn right into Lake Placid Rd. Follow Lake Placid Rd almost to the end where you will see the park.

From the city:
Follow the Bruce Hwy north through Cairns and turn left onto the Captain Cook Hwy. Stay on Captain Cook Hwy through the first 3 roundabouts (Machan’s Beach, Holloway’s Beach and Yorkey’s Knob roads), and then turn left at the fourth roundabout (Cairns Western Arterial). Continue on Cairns Western Arterial past the traffic lights in front of the school and then on to the next set of lights. Turn right into Lake Placid Rd. Follow Lake Placid Rd almost to the end where you will see the park.

From Kuranda:
Exit Kuranda township on Rob Veivers Drive, and turn right into the Kennedy Hwy. Follow the Kennedy Hwy for about 14km until you reach the roundabout at the Captain Cook Hwy. Turn right. Turn right again at the next roundabout (Cairns Western Arterial). Continue past the traffic lights in front of the school and then on to the next set of lights. Turn right into Lake Placid Rd. Follow Lake Placid Rd almost to the end where you will see the park.

From Port Douglas:
Follow the Captain Cook Hwy south past the northern beaches. Turn right at the sixth roundabout (Cairns Western Arterial). Continue past the traffic lights in front of the school and then on to the next set of lights. Turn right into Lake Placid Rd. Follow Lake Placid Rd almost to the end where you will see the park.

Out and About
Lake Placid is a 4-star rated park, close to Cairns international airport; northern beaches and shopping.

In the park, the community kitchen and BBQ are located within the resort style pool area. The modern stainless steel kitchen, complete with a large fridge and freezer have been designed to compliment the tropical setting. There is plenty of space to enjoy meals on your own or with other travellers. A shaded area with tables and chairs, overlooking the pool, provides a relaxing place to read or visit. The free stainless steel gas BBQs sit adjacent to the kitchen so that you can enjoy your meals in a pleasant environment.

Activities are held every Monday & Wednesday night and Saturday mornings from June to the end of September. Money raised at these activities is donated to Angel Flight.

Monday night: For just $7 per person, enjoy a delicious Thai dinner cooked in the community kitchen.

Wednesday night: A casual sausage sizzle and a fun-filled trivia night with great prizes are held on alternate Wednesday nights. A $2 donation is requested.

Saturday mornings: Fresh home made scones and cream, tea and coffee are served in the community kitchen by the pool. A $2 donation is requested.
