Enjoy peace, privacy and character accommodation in exquisite surroundings are just some of the attractions offered by Bronte Manor. Perched on high ground with 360 degree views of undulating hills and trees, Bronte Manor is Wuthering Heights’ newly renovated accommodation: a grand, yet rustic mud brick house exuding charm and character.
The largest dwelling on the 80-acre property, Bronte Manor replaces the once extremely popular Penny’s Place. It is particularly suited to single parties of up to six who want to combine conviviality with privacy.
With two bathrooms, and bedrooms located at either end of the long, brick-floored living room, privacy is ensured for larger groups.
From the living room with its huge open fireplace, doors open onto a large slate courtyard enjoying valley views. The living room is flanked by double bedrooms, each with queen size beds, and each with its own ensuite bathroom. French doors open from both bedrooms onto a slate terrace, while each bathroom features a deep claw foot bath and valley views through enormous windows. A third bedroom contains two single beds.
During chilly winter evenings guests can warm themselves in front of a blazing fire in the living room beneath century-old wooden beams salvaged from the Elders’ wool sheds…just the place to enjoy a glass of excellent Clare Valley wine, perhaps while dinner is being prepared in the spacious, newly renovated kitchen. A full-size stainless steel oven, gas hotplates, plenty of bench space and pots and pans make cooking a pleasure. The morning chef will certainly appreciate the valley views while preparing the lashings of bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomato, which are amongst the breakfast provisions provided.
Bronte Manor features two outdoors entertaining areas, so one can enjoy the country air in most weathers. Guests can eat, or simply sit, listening to the kookaburras while they enjoy the rural view, or at night, watch the star-studded sky. At the edge of the courtyard hundred-year-old gums pepper the slope which meets a wide grassy sward, bordered by a ribbon of trees, with the dam in the distance. There is not another building or road to distract the eye.
’Wuthering Heights’ is an 80 acre (30 hectare) property of trees and rolling hills located five kilometres north of Clare township, offering Clare valley accommodation. Each of three bed and breakfast cottages are self contained, comfortably furnished, and located well away from one another.
Wake up to the sound of birds and enjoy the unhurried pace of the country with a breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, jam, cereals and fruit, provided in the fridge.
Birds, especially parrots are plentiful and kangaroos are seen most days.
Restaurants, wineries and a first class golf course are easily accessible. Clare is a good service centre and offers good shopping facilities. The Clare Valley is noted for its fine wines, excellent wineries, scenic drives and the beauty of its trees and rolling hills. The area has an unspoilt rural charm about it.
Dogs are welcome subject to prior negotiation.
There is plenty of space for children to run around with no cars to worry about.
For the cyclist or walking trail enthusiast, The Riesling trail follows the old railway line between Clare and Auburn (22 kilometres) and is becoming increasingly popular. The trail passes close to wineries, restaurants and scenic spots. It is sign posted and the full trail does not have to be negotiated.
