Situated just south of Dwellingup (derived from the Nyoongar Aboriginal word for 'place of nearby water'), Lane Poole is a major reserve situated on both banks of the Murray River. Running through an ancient valley of the Darling Scarp, the Murray River is the largest un-dammed river in the Darling Range and is popular with rafting and canoeing devotees.
The river forms a series of rapids, small waterfalls and deep still pools. In winter it can be a raging torrent, and in summer a limpid stream to swim, canoe or fish in.
The facilities are based around the following locations in the reserve:
Baden-Powell: Separate camping and day use areas. Barbeques, shaded tables, toilets, canoe launch.
Charlies Flat: Secluded tent sites, each with a fireplace & table. Toilets.
Island Pool: Day use only. Barbeques, tables, toilets, walktrail, lookout, picnic area.
Nanga Mill: the site of an old jarrah mill, burnt in the Dwellingup fires of 1961, and now sheltered by a grove of tall pines. Campsites & Caravan sites, Barbeques, tables, toilets, firewood, children's adventure trail.
Scarp Lookout: Day use. Tables, Barbeques, Lookout.
