Conondale National Park is home to over a quarter of all Queensland’s wildlife species some unique to the area. The Park has long been considered one of the premium bird watching areas in Queensland. It hosts more than 240 species – including 22 rare and endangered.
Sub-tropical riparian rainforest within the park is quietly spectacular in its beauty and breathtaking in its diversity. Protecting the rainforest are the towering eucalypt forests dominated by the mighty Flooded gum eucalyptus grandis. With a massive 34,000 hectares now under protection, Conondale National Park is a must see.
Starting on Booloumba Creek Road, take the scenic drive circuit, which travels for a while through dense National Park rainforest. From the scenic drive visit neighbouring Kenilworth Forest Reserve to picnic, explore the forest on walking tracks or camp. Please note that the roads are gravel, with several creek crossings and whilst often suitable for conventional vehicles can be affected quite dramatically by sudden storms so do check with the National Parks Rangers for availability and road conditions beforehand.
There is an ‘Advanced Eco-Accredited’ guided tour which has been operating in the Conondales for over 15 years available for those who just want to completely relax.
