The Australian Museum has an international reputation in the fields of natural history and indigenous studies research, community programs and exhibitions. The Museum was established in 1827 and is Australia's first museum, with unique and extensive collections of natural science and cultural artefacts.

Experience the stories of Indigenous Australians in their own words, or discover Australia's strange and notorious animals. With its combination of the latest technology, ongoing research and impressive collections, the Australia Museum always surprises. Visitors can explore exhibitions, CD-ROMs, mini-labs, demonstrations and speak with trained scientific staff.

Indigenous Tourism packages where you can discover Indigenous Australia in the heart of Sydney with exciting new tour programs offering the ultimate cultural experience. Choose from a performance with a didgeridoo and dance performance including taking photographs and asking questions of the performers and a guided tour of the Indigenous gallery. Another tour package includes experts demonstrating the use of tradition objects and handling the objects and a guided tour of the Indigenous Exhibition these tours are available for groups of 10 people and over

Our latest permanent exhibition is Dinosaurs exploring how dinosaurs lived and died and how we know - using modern science and latest technology. Discover the latest answer to age-old questions- how did dinosaurs breed and grow? Highlights include make a sound like a crested dinosaur, Breathe in smells of the dinosaur world, Identify dinosaur bones in the fossil dig and get creative with "design-a-saurus" and design your own special dinosaur

Surviving Australia will be commencing in June 2008 will reveal stories of Australia's animal inhabitants and tales of their adaptation and survival over millions of years of changing climate and landscape. This new exhibition will unlock all the secrets and surprises of animal life in Australia

Papapunya Painting; out of the desert is a non permanent exhibition starting from 5 July 2008 until 2 November 2008 - explore the special meanings of dot paintings and their stories of land, history and culture. In this extraordinary exhibition - with over 42 paintings and 20 objects - the symbolic and literal meanings of lines, dots, circles and prints are revealed to you.

Australian Birds and Insects: Enjoy the colours and sounds of our unique birds. Discover some of the world's most extraordinary bugs, beetles and butterflies and some notorious spiders.

Chapman Mineral Collection: View more than 850 of the world's most sought-after mineral specimens. This is a dazzling tribute to Albert Chapman - the Australia cabinetmaker with an international reputation as a great mineralogist.

Planet of Minerals: Offers a journey into the mysteries of the earth's inner core. A variety of displays bring to life the processes, which create these stunning natural works of art.

Indigenous Australians Exhibition: Covers a culture more than 100,000 years old in the new Indigenous Australians exhibition. From the Dreamtime to the struggle for self-determination and land rights, the exhibition tells the stories of Australia's first people in their own words.

Skeletons: A fascinating perspective of natural history and some regard this gallery to be the backbone of the Museums!

Search & Discover: Allows visitors to explore the extensive collection of CD-ROMs, books, magazines and fascinating specimens.

Kidspace is a mini museum that stimulates under 5s to investigate the natural world. Kidspace features five 'pods' - bug pod, marine pod, volcano pod, observation pod and imagination pod. Each pod will intrigue children five years or younger - they can feel animal textures, enjoy wall puzzles, make crazy mixed-up animals and peek out of the observation pod to see what animals they can spot.
