Bicentennial Park was created during the 1980s, in time to celebrate Australia's Bicentenary in 1988. The 100 hectare natural heritage site provides an important wetland ecosystem with 40 hectares of beautiful parklands.
Bicentennial Park is part of Sydney Olympic Park and offers visitors recreation, nature-based tours, environmental education and outdoor event experiences.
The park offers free entry, BBQs, picnic areas, playgrounds, pathways and cycleways, parking, access to the wetlands, salt marsh and bird hides. Additional features include Lake Belvedere, Peace Monument, Treillage Tower, Sundial, 'Cyrus the Great' statue, the Silent Hearts Memorial Garden and water features.
Things to do at Bicentennial Park
- Have a picnic, there is plenty of space around Lake Belvedere.
- Use our BBQ facilities, they are free and electric.
- Play in the two children's playgrounds
- Follow the boardwalk and explore the mangroves.
- Walk, run or cycle, there is over 8 kilometres of shared pathways and cycleways.
- Walk your dog. Please note, dogs are to be on a leash at all times and are not alowed in the wetlands.
- Go bird watching in the specially built bird hide. The Park attracts up to 140 species of migratory birds.
- Relax and enjoy the environment!
Bicentennial Park Information Centre
The centre is currently undergoing a major reconstruction project. The new centre called the WatervieW Convention Centre, is scheduled to open in late 2005 and will include:
- A Café, which will offer coffee and light meals
- An a la carte restaurant seating 180 guests
- A multi-function conference facility hosting 20-2000 people
- Five individual function rooms
- Visitor Information Centre
These facilities will complement the unique array of recreational, heritage and cultural entertainment in Sydney Olympic Park. Please note that during construction, temporary facilities including a kiosk and restrooms have been erected and are located next to the site.
Hire a Site
Bicentennial Park has numerous open spaces and shade structures available for a variety of functions and events; including social and family picnics and barbeques, community events, wedding ceremonies, school picnics, corporate events and other special events. Site hire fees do apply.
