Tarraleah, located less than two hours from Hobart and Launceston is in the Tasmanian Highland Wilderness, a region with many attractions including several national parks and a World Heritage Area. The area has stunning scenery and beautiful lakes, perfect for the many nature, water and adventure based outdoor activities offered at the onsite Activity Centre.
Perched on a plateau on a high ridge overlooking the Tasmanian Highlands, Tarraleah’s dramatic views encompass the lakes, hills and heavily wooded valleys of the Tasmanian wilderness far below.
The self-contained Cottages at Tarraleah provide an excellent option for families and groups. Built in the 1930’s, the cottages have been fully renovated in keeping with the original art deco design, featuring Tasmanian timber and craftmanship. Each has three to four bedrooms, spacious living area, polished Tasmanian Oak floors, modern kitchen and bathroom, laundry facilities and a deck area equipped with a barbecue.
Guests who do not wish to self-cater can take advantage of the other dining options at Tarraleah, Teez at the Lookout Cafe - enjoy a light contemporary meal at the licensed cafe, perched over a dramatic 600 metre drop to the valley floor and wander through the adjoining gift shop and art gallery. Or enjoy a hearty meal at The Highlander Arms, with alfresco dining in the warmer months.
There are a multitude of activities available at Tarraleah’s Activity Centre, Adventure Tarraleah, suited to a range of ages, budgets and degrees of adventure. Activities include guided night wildlife tours, wilderness hikes, bushwalking, kayaking, guided and unguided trout fishing, four wheel drive tours, mountain biking, squash, bocce, croquet and golf on the nine-hole course surrounded by stunning wilderness.
Cuddly Corner Animal Park should provide wonder and amusement for the whole family.
Tarraleah is a unique holiday destination that offers visitors an unmatched opportunity to discover Tasmanian wildlife in their natural environment. While taking a rainforest walk to Tarraleah’s own falls, keep an eye out for a spotted-tail quoll and a pademelon, along with an array of local birds including the amazing lyrebird.
