Diamond Island Apartments,
Bicheno
69 Tasman Highway
Bicheno
Diamond Island Resort is in the east coast fishing village of Bicheno and overlooks the island for which it is named. Just two minutes’ walk from your seaside room are white sandy beaches with the crispest clear water. To the north is Douglas Apsley National Park and to the south Bicheno and Freycinet National Park. At low tide you can explore the island. At dusk you have the chance to watch a private performance of Fairy penguins returning to their nest. The 26 apartments have uninterrupted views to the north and south: you can choose from 12 one-bedroom, eight two-room, four spa suites and two executive apartments. The rooms have simple contemporary clean lines, lots of light and are self-contained with kitchen facilities and reverse cycle air-conditioning; each has its own outdoor area for relaxing and eating. The restaurant, Facets, looks out to sea and serves the best of local produce – fresh fish, shellfish, olives, dairy products and seasonal fruit and vegetables, and you can choose a fine Tasmanian wine to complement your meal. Diamond Island Resort has tennis courts, a small outdoor pool, or you can head off to explore the east coast – Bicheno is a perfect base for exploring the whole area with its vineyards, forest or beach walks, wildlife tours, oyster tours, fruit farms, diving and adventure sports. Accolades: Winner of the 2005 Tasmanian Tourism Award, Deluxe Accommodation.
