Campbell Town
The 1920s was a time of spacious, rambling bungalows - the California style, complete with deep porch, side verandahs and box bay windows. The Gables beautiful gardens are perfect for an early-morning stroll to sharpen the appetite for the fine breakfast. And the open fire is just the thing after the equally fine dinner. In Campbell Town youll find yourself surrounded by historic buildings dating from the 1820s. Many things have not changed - the ducks and swans still hang out under the Red Bridge (1836) waiting for the bread crusts you didnt eat at breakfast. When youve done the historic buildings you can use up energy on the tennis court, the bowling green, the golf course or the swimming pool. Cast for trout at Lake Leake and, while youre there, take a look at the lovely Meters Falls and Lost Falls nearby. Nowhere is very far away in Tasmania; from Campbell Town you can comfortably drive to most central, north east and south east places and be back in time for tea, or a sumptuous dinner, at The Gables - remember to bring back a bottle of wine from one of the local vineyards. Dinner is available by prior arrangement.
