Hidden in the lost valley of Loongana amongst the mountains of North West Tasmania. Mountain Valley Wilderness Holidays an eco retreat with six cosy log cabins nestled under the majestic presence of Black Bluff Mountain ideal for those interested in hiking, flora and unique wildlife experiences. There are deep river gorges, cool fern glades, ancient rainforests, glacial lakes and cascading waterfalls – all easy to explore. This timeless place will refresh your soul. ‘Mountain Valley Private Nature Reserve’. In conjunction with the Tasmanian and Federal Governments the property has a Perpetual Conservation Covenant on it to protect the rare forest habitat. The forests of Mountain Valley include the vulnerable species Eucalyptus Viminalis and the karst includes an extensive, limestone cave system. The reserve is home to many of Tasmania’s unique wildlife including mammals and birds endemic to Tasmania. You can relax in the peace and tranquility, wander by the river, lounge by a roaring open log fire on frosty nights and enjoy the natural fauna and flora from your cosy log cabin base. You can barbecue, cook in your own kitchen or ask your hosts to provide a breakfast basket, picnic hamper, barbecue platter or a hearty three course dinner. Participate in a glow worm grotto, cave or forest habitat tour and join a platypus tour at dusk observing platypus as they forage for food in the still pools of the river. After dark join in the wildlife experience as the wildlife emerge from the forest. You will be visited outside your cabin by pademelons, possums, Quolls and come face to face with a Tasmanian devil Hike up Black Bluff Mountain past Paddys Lake and alpine plants, to waterfalls that cascade 200m off the mountain escarpment, or to the awe-inspiring cliffs of the Leven Canyon rising 300 metres above the roaring river.
