The superb hospitality and historic ambience of a traditional Georgian coaching inn welcomes you at the Racecourse Inn. Centrally located for touring Northern Tasmania in the charming and quaint village of Longford, this lovingly restored inn also provides the modern amenities to make your stay comfortable. Built in 1840, classified by the National Trust, and on the register of the National estate, the mellow convict brick building, with climbing roses, vines and clematis covering its walls, exudes charm and character. Wander the rambling cottage garden, pick fruit from the orchard, or relax by the fire in the guest lounge. Room styles vary to suit individual travellers, and you may choose between king and queen sized beds. Downstairs, both the standard room, with queen bed, and the deluxe Spa room with king bed, feature high ceilings and open fire places. The upstairs Attic rooms are all fully air-conditioned, and all guest rooms have double glazing to ensure maximum comfort and privacy, as well as discreetly introduced ensuite bathrooms. The Racecourse Inn specialises in fine dining. Our gourmet licensed restaurant offers tantalising international cuisine created by our consultant chef, Xavier Mouche. The menu features the freshest local produce available, much of which is sourced from the garden at the Racecourse Inn. The extensive wine list provides the discerning diner with a wide range of Tasmanian and Australian wines from which to choose. The restaurant is open to house guests seven nights a week, but reservations are essential. Breakfast is also a gourmet affair, featuring home made preserves, yoghurt and compotes from the orchard, as well as a large a-la-carte cooked menu. During your stay, you may wish to visit the award winning local attractions of Woolmers, and Brickendon, as well as the National Rose Garden at Woolmers. Stroll the wide streets and admire the fine colonial architecture of Longford, visit antique stores and craft shops, wander along the peaceful river, go golfing or fishing. Your helpful hosts will cook, freeze or even arrange to have your catch stuffed for posterity! Everyone at the Racecourse Inn will endeavour to make your Tasmanian holiday a memorable one.
