Schouten House is Circa 1844 Georgian Accommodation. A landmark Heritage Listed property in the charming seaside town of Swansea, Schouten House has long provided a welcome haven for family and friends; a sense of time and place in a changing world.

Metres from the beach, you can awake to stimulating sunrises or retire to soothing sunsets and be captivated by the ever changing face of The Hazards and Schouten Island across Great Oyster Bay.


Relax and unwind in front of the open fire in our guests’ lounge before withdrawing to your private suite for a peaceful night’s sleep in our queen sized antique beds.


Awake to a generous continental and full cooked breakfast in our traditional dining room before embarking on your day’s journey.


The East Coast of Tasmania is home to grand vistas and magnificent coastal views. Spend your days exploring nearby Freycinet National Park on foot or by sea or air. Meet the wildlife and visit breathtaking Friendly Beaches and Wineglass Bay. Drop in for a tasting at wineries and berry and oyster farms. Kayak, cycle or stroll your way around Great Oyster Bay’s beaches and inlets.


And at the end of the day, return home to Schouten House, to warmth and hospitality in its truest form, and space to relax and unwind.


Schouten House house offers six generously proportioned suites, all with queen sized beds and private ensuites.


Our four upstairs suites surround a quiet sitting room and contain beautiful antique half-tester beds. Downstairs, two charming suites have four poster beds and spacious bathrooms.


All suites contain mini bar and tea and coffee making facilities, televisions and sitting areas. One boasts a sea view and other upstairs suites offer sweeping views of the golf course and parklands opposite. Our family suite contains a single bed in addition to the queen sized bed and room for a cot.


Situated 1.5 hours from both Hobart and Launceston on the East Coast of Tasmania.
