HOLBROOK

MORVEN
Originally a Cobb & Co staging post established in 1861, the Round Hill Hotel remains as a reminder of the rich heritage of the area. The grave of John McLean, who was the first person fatally shot by Dan ‘Mad Dog’ Morgan is between Morven and Culcairn.

CULCAIRN
The charming town of Culcairn is situated on the Billabong Creek, the longest creek in the Southern Hemisphere. Settled from 1834, the town began to grow in 1880 with the construction of Sydney to Melbourne railway. The Culcairn Hotel was built in 1891 and is a focal point of the town. The Station Master’s Residence, redeveloped as a museum, dates from 1883.

HENTY
Established in 1866, after the construction of the railway line it was renamed ‘Henty’ in 1881 and is the home of the Headlie Taylor Header. Henty Machinery Field Days held in September every year attract 50,000 visitors over 3 days. There are a number of antique shops in the town, and a full range of services are available.

MORGANS LOOKOUT
A natural rock formation is famous for having been the vantage point used by the notorious bushranger known as ‘Mad Dog Morgan’ who terrorised the district between 1860 and 1865.

WALBUNDRIE
Originally a gold rush town once known as ‘Piney Range’ Walbundrie was home to several thousand people. Little remains from those heady days, apart from the old schoolhouse erected in 1879 now on the Walbundrie Showgrounds. A bird habitat and a botanical garden are being developed to showcase the native plants of the area.

BURRUMBUTTOCK
Home to the Wirraminna Environment Centre with a large display of acacias and other plants from the surrounding district. It is also the winner of many environmental awards, and has received international recognition.

GEROGERY
This small community at the junction of the Olympic Highway and the Old Olympic Way is home to a great Doll Museum and toy display.

WALLA WALLA
The township of Walla Walla was established in 1869 after 56 German families travelled for six weeks from the Barossa Valley by covered wagons to take up land. The Zion Lutheran Church was built in 1874 and is the largest in Australia. Near to the town is the Walla Walla Gum Swamp.

JINDERA
Jindera was first settled by Lutheran farmers in 1868, and has a thriving industrial estate on its southern outskirts. The Jindera Pioneer Museum has a wonderful complex of buildings, including the original shop and its fittings, early farm machinery and a Blacksmith’s forge.

From Jindera you can then travel down to Albury by Urana Road.
